Haiku

I myself have never felt the need, or the fear, or the uncertainty that would cause me to feel like owning a firearm would make things better, more secure, safer. I have observed, from a distance, the destruction of a sad person who did own a firearm. This piece speaks to unexpectedly coming upon a situation within our day to day lives that brings our life, or someone else's life to a close. The possibility that a morning trip to the coffee shop could unexpectedly be our last, or that a beloved young black man doesn't return home from an evening run.

Haiku is the name of this small robot, fashioned from discarded boxes.

With a reflective personality, Haiku’s quiet observations find simple, natural objects and ideas to be fascinating, worthy and beautiful.

The design for these works is influenced by two Japanese contributions.

Following the spirit of a written haiku, the artwork is brief in line and imagery, encouraging curiosity and enjoyment of the natural beauty of simplicity.

Wabi-sabi is another Japanese idea that inspires these works.

Characteristics of the wabi-sabi aesthetic include asymmetry, roughness, simplicity, economy, austerity, modesty, and intimacy.
